Cryotherapy, or cold therapy, is the use of cold in therapy. In theory, the therapeutic effects of cold include local analgesia (decrease pain), constriction of blood vessels to help decrease edema, and decrease muscle spasms. Recent studies have shown that there is a lack of evidence that cryotherapy improves clinical outcome in the management of soft tissue injuries. New evidence suggests that ice actually slows down the natural healing ability of the body and that ice slows down the flow of lymphatic fluid causing any swelling to linger for longer or not move at all. This is actually the opposite of what most people expect out of cryotherapy or what is currently being used as rationale for it’s use.
Please note that our clinic *does not* have a Cryotherapy Chamber.
